Marcel M The first two tracks leave me with my jaw dropped. Incredible vocalist. Its David Bowie backed by bauhaus with a jazz element. Don't let the jazz part scare you. Favorite track: Valentino's Dream (version 1).

about

Described in 1984 by NME as "a cross between Blurt and Genesis, these post-industrial Oxfam clothes-horses are attempting to mate two very strange bed-fellows - contorted neuro-jazz and grandiose wallpaper epics, loaded with fussy tempo changes" (It is unclear whether the reviewer actually liked the band). Junk formed at Sheffield University initially as a 6-piece but changing line-up several times. Tracks 1-3 are by the Mark One line-up. Tracks 4-6 were recorded April 1983 at Input studios, track 7-9 in 1984.

Band members included -
Jon Quarmby - keyboards
Wally - vocals
Dave - drums
Andy Henley - bass
Alan Russell - guitar
Andy Hobson - bass

Proceeds from this STA release are donated to charity in memory of Martin Lilleker. Martin was a music journalist for The Sheffield Star and Telegraph and author of books documenting the Sheffield music scene from the 60s to 80s. He was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's disease at the young age of 57 and after several years living at home, needed the support and of staff at Woodland View Nursing Home.

This tape was from Martin Lilleker's collection of band demos which, with permission of the artists are gradually being released on STA, with proceeds from their sale to be donated to charity in Martin's memory. (Which is why this release, unlike most on STA has a minimum donation for download). Please support generously.

Proceeds have been donated to the Woodland View dementia support group and a bursary for a young music journalist is to be launched in Martin's name.

Thanks to all bands who have allowed inclusion of their music, Martin's family and also Simon Dell for getting the project off the ground.
